The name Xebia is synonym with quality, customer intimacy as well as knowledge sharing. Xebia provides different avenues to its people to expand their horizons by learning, experimenting, exploring and sharing their knowledge and experiences, both technical and non technical.
Xebia Knowledge Management represents an umbrella of various activities which are aimed to facilitate the personal and professional goals of its people by providing them a platform to voice their ideas or opinions. This may vary from a complex memory optimization algorithm to a guitar session, from a company financial update to a lively anecdote, from a team game to a company discussion.
Since, not everybody speaks as good as Barack Obama and not everybody is as technically proficient as Martin Fowler, Xebia Knowledge Management aims at encouraging people to take the first step towards bridging that gap and achieving excellence.
Every two weeks, the entire company gets together for an intensive knowledge transfer and presentation program. These sessions last from 5PM until 8PM. We organize presentations, brainstorming sessions, hands-on sessions and review cycles. Any work-related topic is welcome: From hard-core Java programming and product presentations to soft skills like transactional analysis. The meetings also have a lively and vibrant atmosphere and often provide a challenging and interactive environment for the presenters! Xebia Tasking is a budget for funding non-billable activities. Consultants may propose projects that they would like to carry out. When the proposal is approved, the consultant may work on their project in normal office hours. For instance, the Spring MVC tag library was funded from Xebia Tasking.
The Xebia Tech Rally is a full day event where 2 or more people get together to master a new cutting-edge technology and share it with the rest of the company. This is an intensive hands-on training geared towards getting everyone up and running with a new technology. This is invariably triggered either by strong common interest in a new, unexplored area, or a business requirement for a new technology.
The presenters typically take 6 to 8 weeks to ensure they are well versed with the topic and the hands-on exercises to ensure they do justice to everyone’s time.
Typically, XKE are too short for any real hand-on, whereas the XTR needs considerable time and preparation. Hence a topic like “Getting started with Android” may not fit in either. This is where XDE comes into picture. This typically happens on a declared-well-in-advance evening, lasting around 4 hours. While in an XKE, almost anything under the sun can be discussed, The XTR and XDE are completely technology focused.
Xebia strongly promotes and supports speaking at technology as well as Agile conferences. This is a platform wherein Xebia shares the stage with industry giants like Sanjiv Augustine, Poppendiecks, Jeff Sutherland et al.
Other than attending conferences as a speaker, sometimes it pays to be on the other side of the table. Xebia pays special attention to keeping the knowledge and the skills of our technical staff up-to-date. We do not leave the responsibility for attending training courses to our consultants: we ensure that they use up the budget that was assigned to them! As a result, our consultants regularly attend seminars and training courses to stay in touch with the latest developments.
We, at Xebia, always believe in sharing knowledge and experiences, learning from the community and giving back to it. In this spirit, we regularly organize events, both community and commercial, to share our experiences, pit-falls and success stories. The conferences range from free workshops, community discussions, speaking at universities to corporate training for the managers and executives.
